Unfortunately Peter is unable to attend DrupalSouth and this session has been cancelled.
Location search is becoming more and more common, especially with more web traffic going mobile and HTML5 technologies like geolocation allowing websites to easily grab user location data.
This session will look at the Drupal location search ecosystem, focussing on solutions that are available with the Search API module and the Solr search server. The session will explore a production use case of the technologies and the challenges that were encountered to get high-performance location search working on a limited budget.
In this session we'll explore the following:
- The contrib modules to have a working location seach solution that can scale
- How to work around expensive geocoding license fees for high-volume location searches
- When to use Drupal site building features and when to write code from scratch to optimise location search
- Performance testing and optimisation processes
